o holy night
the stars are brightly shining
it is the night of our dear Savior's birth
long lay the world
in sin and error pining
till he appeared and
the soul felt it's worth
a thrill of hope
a weary world rejoices
for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
fall on your knees
o hear the angels voices
o night, divine
o night, when Christ was born
o night, divine

truly he taught us to love one another
his law is love and his gospel is peace
chains shall he break for the slave is our brother
and in his name all oppression
shall cease
sweet hymns of joy
in grateful chorus raise we
let all within us praise
his holy name
Christ is the Lord
o praise his name forever

his power and glory
evermore proclaim
// Placide Cappeau, 1847
