I walk across the field as morning walks across the sky.
I've come out from under my covers to watch night's cover lift.
Puffs of clouds appear in the blue sky.
The ripe bloom of a morning glory gives me a small sense of wonder. Their petals so thin-invisible velvet between my finger tips, yet bright and bold in color. They almost hum with song.
I’ve always loved morning glories. I love the way they embrace the dawn, their name, and the beautiful colors they drip.

And it's here standing on the side walk, that I hear it. The thousands of years that have passed haven't silenced the powerful voice. Loud. Bold. Desperate. With a heart beating fast and words bursting from his throat he roars into the air: “JESUS, SON OF DAVID HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!” His shout pierces the city streets in boisterous disruption as he repeats his call. “JESUS, SON OF DAVID HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!” Annoyed people try to shush him- the crazy man.
No. I will not be silent. “SON OF DAVID HAVE MERCY ON ME!” he cries again, without catching a breath. Louder, more desperately, as if his life depends on it.
Jesus hears the man calling out to him. This man who knew he needed Jesus. This man who was desperate for Jesus. Jesus tells him to come and he leaps and runs towards the voice.
They stand, face to face. The man, breathing heavily, eyes glazed in blindness, head tilted to the side. Jesus near, studying his face. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asks the man.
What do you want me to do for you?
Jesus is kind. Jesus is loving. Jesus is compassionate. Jesus is patient.
The man asks for his sight. Jesus heals him and gives him what he asks for and more. “Your faith has made you well.”

Jesus is asking me the same question today, and I believe his answer to the blind man’s can be his answer to me, too.
I must have faith in Jesus that brings me to where that man was: desperate, believing that if I thrust myself at his feet asking for mercy, help, guidance, peace, endurance, forgiveness, patience- he will answer.
But first, I must cry out. First, I must say I need him. First, I must be like the blind mind and shout with all my might. I must remain loud until Jesus answers me- he will answer. In his own sovereign time.
No matter the amount of time that passes, I must not silence my pleas and prayers because of fear, unbelief, cynical thoughts, disappointment, depression, or any other scheme from the pit of hell satan shoots at me. I must keep begging for Him- He will answer. The God who will answer me is the true God who made me, knows everything about me already, and knows what I need before I ask.

Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.
“What do you want me to do for you?”
Listen today and believe that he cares.

“What do you want me to do for you?”
Honestly answer from the heart. You’ll see sin, you'll find forgiveness. You’ll find mercy.

“Your faith has made you well.”
Morning glory. Both tangible and invisible. A mystery and a sweet aroma. His mercies are new every morning.

written this summer, adapted today.
sorting through the piles of words I made in 2014.
In 2015, I want to be just as LOUD and PERSISTENT for Jesus with the faith the man in Mark 10 had.
Blind, bold, then behold the Lamb.
With His presence in us, just as He was every day this past year, I welcome a New Year!

One Response to “boldly i cry! ”
Beautiful. I love you! Happy New Year! Bethany
